Fr. Silviu is an Orthodox priest and a retired professor of Old Testament and early Judaism. He grew up and lived in Romania, where he also received his seminary education, before he and his family moved to the United States. He pursued further studies in early Judaism and ancient Christianity at Marquette University with Deirdre Dempsey (his Doktormutter), Archbishop Alexander (Golitzin), Sharon Pace, and Michel Barnes (among others), and received his Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament in 2005. Between 2007 and 2022 he taught as Bible faculty at the University of Dayton in Ohio. On occasion, he has also taught Old Testament and language seminars for St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in Yonkers, New York. He was ordained to the diaconate and the priesthood in 2012 and serves under the omophorion of Archbishop Alexander (Golitzin) in the Orthodox Church in America (OCA). In 2018 he, together with Fr. Matthew-Peter Butrie, established Cherubim Press, with the blessing of Archbp. Alexander. When he doesn’t write or doesn’t translate from koini (the Scriptures, the Fathers, or Orthodox liturgy), he reads (particularly Dostoevsky), takes long walks, skis, or tends to his small patch of woods.

Tyler DeLong joined Cherubim Press as an editor in 2021. He completed his Master’s degree in Theology at the University of Dayton in 2015, focusing primarily on the Liturgy, Christian practice, and the Sacraments. In 2017, Tyler and his family were received into the Orthodox Church at St. Paul the Apostle Orthodox Church in Dayton, Ohio. In addition to his work for Cherubim Press, Tyler is a fine woodworker and print artist.
In 2021, Tyler and his wife, Holly, together founded Eremos Workshop, an Orthodox workshop attending to the sacred and liturgical arts for the home and parish. Tyler’s poetry, essays, and printwork can be found in the pages of places like Jesus the Imagination: a Journal of Spiritual Revolution. In his spare time, Tyler enjoys hiking, fishing, and generally being outdoors with his family. He lives with his wife and five children on their small homestead in the rural Midwest.
Ana Bunta, who is Fr. Silviu’s daughter, serves as the main proofreader and illustrator for the press. She was born in Romania and moved with her parents to the United States at a very young age. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from the University of Dayton and is pursuing a PsyD in Clinical Psychology in California.
She loves swimming, horseback riding, skiing, hiking, and reading, particularly the works of Harper Lee, Stieg Larsson, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Jordan Peterson, and Carl Jung. Otherwise, she enjoys reading the lives and teachings of saints, elders and spiritual fathers and mothers, using their wisdom as inspiration for her illustrations (such as for the logo of the press) while exploring connections between Orthodox teachings and psychology.
